  • Exhibitors vs Fair-Goers

When we used to do fair (selling the Country Critters puppets that we manufactured at the time) back in the '80's, our favorite place to go was Washington State.  There was one regular 10 day fair we would do, and then pack up and head for Puyallup.  Their fair was an 18 day fair, so the first thing we did was check extended stay hotels information.   We found one that we ended up staying the 4 years we went out there.  It had a refrigerator and a little stove, so we often would stop at the grocery store at the end of the day and buy fruit and sandwich stuff for the next day.  Course, one thing we really liked about this particular fair was that they had an exhibitor's lounge/restraunt.  You had to have an exhibitor's badget to get in.  You didn't have to fight the fair-goers, standing in line for precious minutes, not to mention already being dead on your feet.  You could go in there, sit down, order food, and you were among friends -- other exhibitors.  But still, you couldn't go there every meal, every day (well...you probably could, but it would really eat into your profits), so thats where the fruit and snacks and stuff would come in.

We have found memories of this period of our lives, but I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that it is not something I could or would do today.   I wouldn't mind taking some time off, making a vacation of it, and going out there to attend as a fair-goer.  But, those fair working days are long behind us, thank goodness.

  • It has been years since I was at a Fair. I loved the Lions Club french fries doused with vinegar.

  • Hello Carolyn, I just stopped by and was reading that you use to come to the Puyallup fair. Close to where we live. I have friends that say the same thing about working at the fair. How long and hard it can be. I also like to be creative when I can. I also change my theme often. I  make themes for xanga on my other site Grams2. Have you tryed your hand at that yet?

I like your site and your shorter versions of bloggings. I hope you don't mind if I sub to you, Have a blessed day!! Sharon
